JAMKIT Christmas 2012 message

Carol Phillips President JamKit Association
Press Release

Basseterre, St Kitts 20th December 2012  --  It is that special time of year again.  That time when the breeze blows a little cooler and damper; that time when the leaves rustle a little louder and huskier; that time when the music starts to pulsate with more energy and the scent of meats curing, cakes baking and drinks brewing seeps into our consciousness.  Welcome to Christmas – West Indian style!

No wonder that the Jamaican Kittitian (JamKit) Association would be most excited to employ this medium to extend a warm word of greeting to all as the Yuletide Season approaches.  With Carnival in the Federation’s air, we all are provided with the reminders of the energy and enthusiasm resonant in the celebratory note that this special time of year holds.

It would certainly be hard to deny that this has been a truly memorable and momentous year for Jamaica and for St. Christopher and Nevis, providing much for which to be thankful.  As such, taking the time to consider the true meaning of Christmas provides a wonderful vantage point against which to merge religious, social and national identities.

Despite our diversities, our membership continues to share the united ethos that connects us culturally and ideologically to our Christian heritage; one that acknowledges the birth of Christ and commemorates it at this time of year.

We share with many of the world’s Christian and non-Christian communities the appreciation that this season holds a special place in the lives of many and provides a great context for facilitating greater universal collaboration and faith.  Indeed, as we continue to see expression of violence and evil in the world, as recently and graphically as this past week in the United States of America, we would share in the call for humanity to truly work towards realising, ‘peace on earth and goodwill to all’.

As our year of celebration for the 50th Anniversary of Political Independence in Jamaica comes to a close, our Association continues its efforts at leaving its mark positively on the lives of those around us.  We have continued our work with the Annual Salvation Army Kettle Drive, which seeks to raise funds for their on-going projects.

In addition to assisting on St Kitts, this year JamKit assisted with the collection drive on Nevis for the first time through the increased collaboration with the Jamaicans living on Nevis.  We have continued to work towards our intervention in renal care outreach through the Federation’s medical facilities.  Our members individually continue to volunteer to assist in various capacities and in various organizations within the Federation.  A core part of spreading goodwill remains the improvement of the state of man, to which we are all called to contribute.

In closing, we trust that the Season will be one of peace, happiness and celebration for all.  We hope that safety will be never far from your undertakings and that family and friends will be nearer still.  May God continue to richly bless you each, individually and collective, as we give thanks for another Christmas Season.
    One Love.
