I gave Sam a pension; he is ungrateful to his constituents...says Ashley Allers

Ashley Allers

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LOCAL businessman Ashley Allers has fired back at comments made by his Parliamentary Representative the Hon. Sam Condor, describing him as less than truthful, selfish and disrespectful.

The exchange between Allers and Condor began with Allers speaking about the disappointment of Constituents of St. Christopher Three with Condor’s refusal to communicate with them regarding issues that he has with Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Denzil L. Douglas.

Allers had indicated that a complaint – which takes the form of a petition – has been launched and seeks to effect the removal of Condor as that Constituency’s Parliamentary Representative.

Condor – who spoke exclusively with SKNVibes – responded to Allers’ comments and explained that the Executive of the St. Christopher Three Branch was always in the know as it relates to his actions and that he still has the support of the vast majority of his constituents.

He also described Allers as a mischief maker and suggested that he would be dealt with in time.

Allers, having read Condor’s statement, earlier today (Dec. 13) contacted this media house and spoke in response to it.

His first point was that he could not be accused of causing mischief when the views he expressed are truly those of many of Condor’s constituents.

“I don’t see how I could be making mischief when the date for the meeting was set with Minister Condor on last Saturday. It was Jason Hamilton who called Minister Condor and told him that we (the constituents) wanted to meet with him at the Constituency Office. And Minister Condor was the one who said that we must take the meeting by the Community Centre because the Constituency Office would be too small.

“So we promoted the meeting for Tuesday (Dec 11) upon his advice and on Monday Minister Condor called Jason to put off the meeting. Well, we decided to continue with the meeting with or without Minister Condor because that is the kind of behaviour we’ve been getting from Minister Condor for a very long time.

“There are concerns in the constituency from persons who have been trying to meet with Minister Condor and he kept promising to meet with them. There was a group on Monday afternoon who waited for him from 4:30 until 7:00 in the night and he never showed. And so it is this kind of behaviour from Minister Condor that has forced the people of Constituency Number Three to behave in this way.”

Addressing Condor’s comments about the Branch Executive being informed, Allers was adamant that the Executive is defective and has not met for a while.

“In fact, in reading your article, he said that the constituency has been informed. Ask Minister Condor when was the last time he had a constituency meeting. You always hear on ZIZ radio the announcements about meetings in West Basseterre and he hardly shows up. In fact, ask him when last he got 10 persons to show up to a constituency meeting.

“What needs to be told and understood is he speaks of the dysfunctional operation of the West Basseterre Executive. It has been dysfunctional for years, nothing really happens. There are no meetings.”

The businessman – who was a Campaign Manager for Condor – said his Parliamentary Representative, for whom he worked tirelessly, is disrespectful and selfish.

“I am a former Campaign Manager for Sam Condor who I have helped to pay him a pension and who has said to me personally and to the constituents that he has now paid off for his house, his children, they are out of school and so he can now attack the Prime Minister. That is what we are making noise about. It is about the selfishness, it is about the disrespect that he has meted out to the constituents of Number Three. It isn’t me, I am not no ring leader, I am not no mischief maker. It is the people of Number Three – especially the people of the Village area – who are fed up with Sam Condor.”

Regarding Condor’s “threat”, Ashley retorted, “There is nothing that Sam can do to me! I have given him a pension. I have worked for him, my family has worked for him. And it is these threats that he has given out to other people. He can’t play with me!”

The Constituency Three member expressed that Condor is committing “political suicide” simply because he has neglected to communicate with his constituents.
