Mini Music Festival and Carnival to be held in Sandy Point

By: Jenise Ferlance, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IN an effort to bring a carnival as well as music festival-like atmosphere to the community of Sand Point, the Sandy Point Agricultural Co-operative Society (SPACS) would be hosting two major events.

Tomorrow (Dec. 14) SPACS, in collaboration with the Legends Tent, would be hosting a Calypso Bacchanal at the Sandy Point Market.

The event, which is expected to start at 8:00 p.m., would feature the calypsonians who sang in the Legends Tent. Entrance fee would be the usual EC$20.

On sale would be Ital dishes, various types of drinks as well as provisions including pumpkins, green bananas, dasheens, tanyas, sweet and season peppers, tomatoes and herbs and thyme.

According to Lionel Stevens, one of SPACS farmers, this event is being hosted as a means of bringing a slice of carnival to the western end of the island.

He explained that the funds raised from the sale of the eats, drinks and provisions would be put towards bathroom renovations at the Sandy Point Market.

Also, next Saturday (Dec. 22), SPACS would be hosting its first reggae concert dubbed "Movement Uprising Reggae Splash".

This event would also be held at the Sandy Point Market with an entrance fee of just EC$10.

Gates open at 6:00 p.m. with DJ Six-a-Clack and Slaughter House providing musical entertainment, and the show kicks off at 8:00 p.m. with a number of local artistes who promised to perform at their best.

The artistes include DC, House of Judah, Ras Jungles, Ras Kali, Empress Livity, Hi Light, ITYC, Jah Motion and a special female guest artiste.

Stevens said the mini music festival-like event is being held in an effort to diversify Carnival and give the local artistes an opportunity to showcase their talents during the Carnival season, which is usually a time when the focus is on the local bands.

Proceeds from this event would also be put towards bathroom renovations at the Sandy Point Market.
