By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CHAIRMAN of the Carnival and Calypso Committees, Sylvester Anthony is promising to provide patrons with a very exciting and “big show” tomorrow night when 21 artistes will be competing at  the Sugar Mill in Warner Park for the Power and Groovy Soca crowns.

In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, Anthony said, “I think soca fans can expect a very big show. The music is good and we have quite a large number of artistes.

“Preparations are going very well and the artistes have had their rehearsals. We have signed all the contracts and done all the preparatory works. The Sugar Mill is ready, so we are looking forward to an exciting show tomorrow.”

He also explained how the finalists for both segments of the competition were selected.

“The finalists were selected by a panel of three judges who listened to the CDs that were submitted by the artistes to ascertain whether they made the technical requirements. And once that was satisfied and with the number of registrants, we decided to send them straight to the finals rather than having semi-finals.”

There are nine finalists for the Groovy Segment while the Power Segment will feature 12 artistes.

Among the finalists is the 2011 Power Soca Monarch, Take Over, who will be competing in both segments with ‘Don’t Need Much to Party’ and ‘Paint de Sky’.

Also returning to the arena is the 2011 First Runner-up in the Groovy Segment, Ali Dee, the voice behind the Soca hit ‘With or Without You’.

She will be singing ‘Party’ and ‘We Belong’ in the Groovy and Power segments, respectively.

In addition to Take Over and Ali Dee, the Groovy segment will see Queen Kibi with ‘Come Home’, Idoni singing ‘Up On Me’, Nickhail hitting it with ‘Whyne your Bumpa’, Delly Ranks coming with ‘Come 2 Jam’, Khyla bouncing on the stage with ‘Why You Standing’, Queen Anastasia bouncing around with a song called ‘Nice’ and Ras Kelly doing his thing with ‘Banana Wine It’.

the Power Segment will feature  Mr. World merging ‘Vice Versa’, Ras Kelly parading with ‘Moko Jumbies’, Nickhail hoping that ‘We Never’, Queen Anastasia prancing with ‘Party In The Streets’, Ranking Skef wearing ‘No Rags, No Flags’, Fantastic Tunda biting like a ‘Pitbull’, Idoni enjoying himself with ‘Jump Up If You Feeling Good’, Delly Ranks representing himself and others with ‘Irep’, Mighty Honesty preparing for the ‘Zoo Boat Coming’ and Khyla bringing Sandy Point to ‘Represent’.

Tomorrow night’s show will be hosted by EK the ‘Real Right’ and admission is $30.

Tickets are available at the Carnival Secretariat in the Pelican Mall, Tony's Liquor Center and Rover's Bar in Newton Ground.
