BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - HISTORY was made early this morning (Dec. 22) in St. Kitts when Take Over was crowned King of both the Groovy and Power Soca Competitions.

In an exciting show at the Sugar Mill in Warner Park that concluded shortly before 2:00 a.m. today, Take Over became the first individual to win both crowns and also the first to have won the Power Soca Competition back-to-back.

Singing 'Don't Need Much' in the Groovy category, Take Over had a large number of the audience moving to his catchy beat and followed up this feat in the Power category, as he and them ‘Painted De Sky’ with rags, flags and glow sticks as well as fireworks to compliment his performance.

With a very energetic performance in the Groovy segment, Ali Dee was adjudged First Runner-up with a song called 'Party', while Kyla Browne, in her debut performance, took the Second Runner-up spot with 'Why you Standing'.

However, the Power segment saw the two ladies switching positions.

Speaking with Take Over after the show, the young artiste declared that he felt elated by his successes.

"I am happy and I am excited, and to say my demeanor will change because of it…no, not at all! I came here to win and I am really happy to share this with my family, friends and my fans. The five months of preparation paid off.

"I was confident that I did a good job. I came to do what I have to do and I delivered. After the applause and reaction, it was just a case of what the judges thought and they all agreed that I did very well."

When asked about what performance he felt was his strongest, Take Over said, “I really don't think I had a better performance. I wanted to deliver on both and I think I delivered on them, and I don't really think that I fell down in one area."

The Soca Monarch finals saw nine Groovy finalists and 12 Power finalists performing before a fair sized crowd.
