BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CONGRATULATIONS are now pouring in for Pernelle Abraham of the Immaculate Conception Catholic School who was crowned the 2012 -2013 National Carnival Talented Queen and De Conqueror Chris who dethroned Singing Solution to be crowned this year’s Junior Calypso King.

The joint events took place last evening (Dec. 22) at the Sugar Mill in Warner Park before an estimated audience of just under 1 000, most of which demonstrated their appreciation of the judges’ decision.

The evening started with five beautiful contestants of the National Carnival Talented Teen Competition taking the stage to present their Ambassadorial Speech, and they were followed by four of the 12 competitors of the National Junior Calypso Competition performing their renditions in the battle for the coveted title.

In addition to the Ambassadorial Speech, the bevy of beauties was judged on Ambassadorial Wear, Performing Talent, Formal Teenage Wear and Onstage Interview, and all of them were required to participate in the non-judged Opening Fanfare.

However, in an effort to have a smooth transition from one event to the other, the young calypsonians, divided into three groups, took to the stage in between segments of the Talented Teen Competition.

Abraham dominated all of the judged segments and had visibly exhibited the qualities, mannerism and actions intended to attract notice, which were superior to those of her fellow contestants.

For her Performing Talent, Abraham depicted a child who was sexually abuse and had received a rousing applause from the audience for the messages she sent against this despicable act, what emotional and psychological effects it has on victims and what should be done to avoid it.

All of the contestants had demonstrated confidence and with relative ease glided through all of the segments with the exception of the Interview, which proved a challenge to most of them as they struggled to find the appropriate words to express themselves.

Following the completion of both events, Abraham was declared winner of the National Talented Teen Competition and De Conqueror Chris as the new Junior Calypso King.

This announcement produced loud cheers and jubilation at the Sugar Mill as celebratory explosives flew from the front of the stage into the air, brightening the night, with both winners expressing their excitement and happiness over their hard-earned success.

Shaneequa Rogers of Verchild's High School was adjudged First Runner-up and Washington Archibald High School’s Xarriah Browne took the Second Runner-up position.

Last year’s winner of the National Carnival Talented Teen Competition, Junika Berry of Washington Archibald High School, was also present and took her final walk onstage before the crowning of Abraham.
And in the National Junior Calypso Competition, De Conqueror Chris dominated the event with a splendid performance singing ‘Break The Silence’.

Last year’s winner, Singing Solution, captured the First Runner-up position with a song called ‘Memories Of The Dead’, while Mighty Saani was adjudged Second Runner-up and Singing Sha-D Third Runner-up.
