BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Bird Rock resident is left without the use of his personal mode of transport as an early morning fire completely destroyed the engine and other components in the front section of his vehicle.

Information reaching SKNVibes this morning state that a vehicle (Mitsubishi Nativa P6168), owned by Dr. Asyil Warner of Earle Mornes, Bird Rock, was on fire. On arrival at his residence, it was observed that the fire was already extinguished by a unit of the Fire and Rescue Services but extensive damage was done to the engine.

This media house sought to get a comment from the Political Scientist and popular contributor to WINN FM’s Voices and Inside the News programmes, but he declined and noted that he does not like publicity.

However, an informed source told SKNVibes that sometime after 7:00 this morning when Dr. Warner entered his vehicle and attempted to start it, he heard “a whooshing sound and observed smoke, then fire emanating from the bonnet of his vehicle”.

The source further stated that the fire started within the right side of the engine compartment and quickly spread to all other sections.

A member of the Fire and Rescue Services informed that they received the report of the fire at approximately 7:45 a.m. and immediately responded. He explained that the entire was completely engulfed in flames but the firemen had the situation under control in less than five minutes.

He also pointed out that they were deeply concerned “over the fire reaching the area within which two 100-pound gas cylinders were housed”.

But, with efficiency and dexterity, the fire fighters eliminated the threat of conflagration. The cylinders were positioned some six feet away from the vehicle within the garage.

When asked, the fire officer could not say what may have caused the fire, but explained that investigations are ongoing.
