BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Early yesterday morning (Dec. 30), well-known recording Jamaican Dancehall/Reggae artiste G Whizz and two members of his management team escaped with minor injuries following an accident on the Newtown Bay Road in Basseterre, St. Kitts.

G Whizz, born Garland Rowe, was the guest artiste for the 33rd annual Digicel Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant held at the Sugar Mill, in Warner Park On Saturday (Dec. 29).

He also made a special guest appearance at the third annual Inception Fete, which was held at the historic Fort Thomas Hotel grounds shortly after the Pageant ended.

Information reaching SKNVibes indicates that the entourage was heading towards the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport to check-in for a flight that morning.

Head of the Traffic Department Superintendent Cromwell Henry informed this media house that the accident took place at 5:40 a.m. along the Newtown Bay Road in the vicinity of the Fisheries Complex.

Reportedly, the taxi bus in which G Whizz and his entourage were travelling was TA 436, driven by Omari Slader of St. Johnson’s Avenue.

Henry said investigations revealed that the bus was travelling from Frigate Bay to Basseterre when the vehicle ran off the road and collided with a lamp post on the mountain side of the island, breaking it (the lamp post) in two pieces.

Additionally, the Traffic Department official said the Emergency Medical Services had treated the accident victims on the scene.

He noted that three passengers, including the artiste, were treated for “minor injuries”, adding that they all received minor lacerations.

As gathered, G Whizz’s injuries included a cut on his lip.

A Youtube video was uploaded after the artiste arrived in his homeland, and in it G Whizz blamed the driver for the accident.

“Apparently, it look like de driver fell asleep and ran off a de road. You know wha a mean, and  run into a post. De post bruk, de transforma fall dung and sparks a fly all ova de place. You know it was a good enough impact to bruk de post an ting”, the Jamaican artiste said.

G Whizz confirmed that they were indeed on their way to the airport, recounting that the accident took place when they were going “to de airport fi forward back a yard”.

As it pertains to his injury, he disclosed, “Mi receive cuts and bruises to mi face, mi foot and some parts a mi hand.”

G Whizz revealed that he refused being taken to the hospital for further attention because he did not want to miss his flight to go back home.

“Ambulance forward pon de scene. Dem did want tek we to de hospital fi furda treatment and ting but mi never wan do that, because dem never have no more flights outta de island until next week. So dem just treat we pon de spot and we tek if from  dey so”, he explained.

A Shuzzr & Mpr Consulting press release linked to the video explained why the artiste chose to go to the airport following the accident.

Also in the video, G Whizz expressed gratitude to have been spared what could have been a worse ordeal.
