BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young man was reportedly stabbed by two masked men Friday evening in downtown Basseterre and has since been warded at the Joseph N France General Hospital.
Reports reaching SKNVibes state that Deron Rawlins of St. Peter’s, while in the company of his sibling, was attacked and stabbed by the two unidentified men shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Fort Street in the vicinity of the Bank of Nova Scotia.
According to the victim’s mother, Rawlins had left home earlier to go to Basseterre with his little brother. She told this media house that there was a power outage at about 8:00 p.m., and shortly thereafter they were approached by two masked who repeatedly stabbed Rawlins while his brother looked on.
The attackers then ran away from the scene, leaving him with injuries to his back and the right side of his body. He was immediately transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.
The mother added that due to the darkness and the masks worn by the two men, Rawlins was unable to identify his assailants.
“He has no idea what the motive behind all this is. He has nothing against anyone and, as far as he knows, no one has anything against him,” she said.
Rawlins is currently hospitalised and recuperating as investigations into the incident are ongoing.
This marks the second time in as many days that individuals have been attacked in a ‘lights out’ Basseterre. On Thursday, October 2, Barrister-at-Law and former politician Constance Mitchum was the victim of an attempted robbery on New Street.
