BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the theme “25 years: We will continue to strive, moulding and nurturing our children’s minds”, the Sandy Point Primary School will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary during the entire month of October.

The month of events was officially launched yesterday (Oct. 5) with a Thanksgiving Service at the St. Anne’s Anglican Church, where members of staff, students and parents congregated to reflect on the past accomplishments and to look forward to the main goals of the institution.

The anniversary, although in actuality is dated September 18, is celebrated during October to avoid coinciding with the nation’s Independence celebrations.

Principal of the school Jennifer Dolphin, during a massive special assembly held immediately outside of the school premises, retraced the steps taken by the institution since its inception.

She acknowledged the invaluable contributions made by her predecessors, including the late Rosabelle Warner, Marilyn Bertie, Anthony Wiltshire and Marilyn Maynard, who have “made an indelible mark on the lives of children in the community”.

“I must pay tribute to past and present teachers, especially those who were a part of the long haul of service through education.

We have all been a part of the great challenging task of nurturing children’s minds. And so, right now, we have to buckle up our shoe straps and pull up our socks because this task is growing and we must be well prepared to face it,” Dolphin stated.

After a minute of silence in honour of the school’s first Principal, the late Rosabelle Warner, the second and longest-serving Principal for the school, Marilyn Bertie, described the time of moving from the Old Boys’ School into the new school as “a time of excitement and pride for teachers and students alike”.

She, in a brief address, challenged the students to continue to strive for excellence and based her presentation on one word, perseverance. She encouraged the students to recognise their value and believe that if they try, they would all be able to succeed.

Also in attendance were Minister of Education Hon. Sam Condor, past Principal Anthony Wiltshire, Senior Education Officer Clarice Cotton and past student Pastor Clive Saunders who all addressed the gathering of students and teachers.

They observed the work that the school has done in building the nation and highlighted the importance of individual empowerment, which would in turn encourage the enhancement of the community and nation at large.

Minister Condor congratulated the institution and viewed the milestone reached by the school as similar to that reached by the nation, and described the period as one of “Pride, Development and Progress”.

The assembly saw students making congratulatory tributes in the form of poems and speeches as well as a brief dramatisation re-enacting the opening of the school. Teachers and students gave rousing three cheers after singing the words “Through the sunshine and the rain...Sickness and the pain, we have made it!”  ~~Adz:Right~~
