BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 7th, 2013 (SKNIS) - On Saturday, January 05, members of the Cayon Police Station expressed their gratitude to residents of the districts it serves, for their assistance in a recent renovation project that upgraded the safety, comfort and aesthetics of the building.
At an evening social held at the Cayon Community Center, Vincent Buckley, Eugene Dias, Corey Ceasar, and Adeson Duncan were recognized for their contributions to the Cayon Police Station renovation project which included roof repairs, retiling of the first floor, installation of a backdoor, the construction of an office space and a complete paint job.
Woman Sergeant Gwendolyn Duncan revealed that the two month project, which began in the last week of October, saw members of the public working side-by-side with the police to transform the building.
“They donated time, money and resources, doing whatever [needed to be done] for the station,” she stated.
The suggestion to paint the exterior of the station was also recommended by community individuals and support was received from Her Majesty’s Prison to accomplish this. A sign bearing the name of the district station was also donated and will soon be erected at the front of the building.
Commissioner of Police Celvin G. Walwyn surprised Sergeant Duncan at the event by presenting a plaque for the tremendous work she has done since being posted at the station almost one year ago.
“Thank you for the hard work that you do,” he said. “I know your work ethic. You worked hard at your old station and now that you’re here [in Cayon] you have made a difference.”
Commissioner Walwyn cited the increase in police patrols in the area and number of arrests for persons breaking the law.
“You are holding their feet to the fire and making everyone accountable,” he emphasized. “I want to encourage you to continue doing this, and by the people here tonight, I know that you have the community’s support.”
After the awards presentation, the men and women of the station and the public enjoyed an evening of music and food and promised to collaborate even further in the new year.
