BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 8TH 2008 (CUOPM) – A call for greater collaboration to deter the youth from becoming involved in crime and violence has come from St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

Speaking at a 25th Anniversary Independence Dinner and Ball in London, Prime Minister Douglas said there must be continued enhancement of the Federation’s education system to make it more relevant to emerging economic frameworks and the engagement with the youths must be dynamic.

“It is important that we increase our attention to the youth of St. Kitts and Nevis. It is critical that we stem the tide of a socio-cultural decay that plagues some of our youth.

It is relevant that we reach our youth in a manner that deters them from a life of crime. The drugs and gun culture do not belong to St. Kitts and Nevis, and I am sure that the majority of our citizens and residents will agree that we must escalate strategies that help to save our young people who are likely to enter a life of crime,” Prime Minister Douglas told some 600 nationals attending the event.

Prime Minister Douglas said there is the need to re-orientate their focus and create a means by which their talents could be productive to them, while building positive attributes and character among the youth.

“There is need for a great deal of collaboration among appropriate organizations, individuals, our youth, Government and the Private Sector. Ultimately, our nation needs our young people to be more productive, creative and inspirational among their peers,” said Dr. Douglas.  ~~Adz:Right~~
