Roadtown, Tortola - Premier Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE today signed a contract with Anegada Concrete Products Limited to provide concrete for the paving of several sections of the road network on Anegada.

Describing the contract as historic in nature, Honourable O’Neal said it is the first time that Anegadians have achieved this level of involvement in infrastructural development and the first time too, that a portable mixer will be used to provide concrete for road projects.

The Premier commended the young entrepreneurs for taking the initiative to start the enterprise and provide such a service. He also gave assurances that development will take place on Anegada.

“Anegada is going to develop and the Anegadians must get enterprising and take full charge of the island,” the Premier said at Monday’s signing.

Under the $66,990 contract, Anegada Concrete Products will provide 290 cubic metres of ready mix concrete for the Anegada Road Infrastructure Improvement Development Project.

Although the monetary value of the contract is relatively small, Honourable O’Neal said “we are building up the infrastructure in Anegada, preparing for what is to come and at the same time helping people who are there now get better roads so that they can drive in comfort and when tourists come to the island, they too can get around in comfort.”

The Premier encouraged owner of Anegada Concrete Products Mr. Kevin Vanterpool and his colleagues to provide excellent service to increase the likelihood of them being called upon again in the future to provide more service.

“You will see your enterprise growing bigger and bigger and after a time it might not be necessary to bring anyone in there to do the work. You must remember that you are growing bigger and bigger each day and your aim is to   produce and expand as necessary,” the Premier added.

Deputy Premier Honourable Dancia Penn, OBE, QC also congratulated Mr. Vanterpool on the awarding of the contract. She echoed the Premier’s sentiments that Anegada will develop. “Government is embarking on important work on the island of Anegada; it is testimony to the confidence that we still have, and indeed must have, in our people.”

She also urged the contractor to do good work. “We know that you will do us proud, that you will set a good example and perform to standard and as you are obligated to under the terms of the contract,” Honourable Penn said.

In his brief remarks contractor, Mr. Kelvin Vanterpool assured the Premier that his confidence is not misplaced. “I would like to thank the Honourable Premier and the Government of the BVI and assure them that they can expect the best from Anegada Concrete.”

The contract was signed by the Premier on behalf of Government and witnessed by the Deputy Premier while Mr. Vanterpool signed on behalf of his company with Mr. Daniel Cline as his witness.

Government is committed to the modernisation and expansion of the network of roads throughout the Territory, including the sister islands.   ~~Adz:Right~~
