Students’ Image of the Working World set for Transformation

~~Adz:Right~~ Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 8, 2008 (SKNIS): The working world becomes more realistic to students of the fourth form who have signed up to participate in the Third Annual Work Experience Programme which starts on Monday.

The activity is a joint venture between the Ministries of Tourism and Education as well as the private sector and is designed to give students a glimpse of the working world through a week long practical exercise in various fields and establishments.

Twenty-five students from each secondary school in St. Kitts will enter workplaces on Monday hoping to glean from the experience as well as to assess their strength and weaknesses.

Constance Richardson of the Ministry of Education, who sits on the Work Experience Sub-Committee of the Tourism Month Planning Committee, said a new initiative is being implemented to further fine-tune the process this year.

On Thursday, all students who will be a part of the programme will be involved in a motivational workshop at the Ocean Terrace Inn on Thursday October 9th.

Ms. Richardson revealed that several speakers from the ministry of Tourism as well as individuals from the corporate community will be making presentations.

She also indicated that popular host of the “On the Platform Show” and past Ms National Carnival, Wanda Connor - herself a member of the sub-committee - will give a motivational speech as a model of outstanding youth achievement.

Permanent Secretary of Tourism Mr. Lloyd Lazar represents the Ministry of Tourism on the Work Experience Sub-Committee.

The programme is one of the items on the Tourism Month observance.
