Basseterre, St.Kitts, January 23rd 2013:-Attorney and Deputy Chairperson of the People’s Action Movement Jonel Powell is congratulating the Concerned Citizens Movement on their Nevis Island Assembly NIA Elections victory. The Central Basseterre Parliamentary representative hopeful, praised the CCM on what he described as a precedent setting victory.
“Congratulations to the Concerned Citizens Movement on a precedent setting victory. The wind of change has been blowing fiercely in our federation for years now, and the will of the people of Nevis has been reiterated powerfully, albeit a year and a half late,” said Attorney Powell.
“Thomas Jefferson said the will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government, and to protect its free expression should be our first object. Little doubt in my opinion that Hon. Vance Amory and his party were guided by this principle.
Therefore I must express particular sentiments of congratulations to the Hon Mark Brantley on holding his ground, trusting his people and allowing the grace of god to deliver to him a well deserved victory again,” Powell declared
“I, along with the People’s Action Movement and the people of St. Kitts are encouraged that the will of the people can no longer be denied, even when faced by the ill will of corrupt men,” concluded Powell.
The CCM won 3 of the 5 Nevis Island Assembly seats with Leader and Premier elect Vance Amory , Leader of the Federal Opposition Mark Brantley and Alexis Jeffers won their respective seats. Former Premier Joseph Parry and Robelto Hector of the Nevis Reformation Party won the other two seats .
