Former Miss Capisterre shines at Law School

    Shamara Morton

Miss Shamara Morton, a native of St. Paul’s Village in St.Kitts, graduated among the top students of her class from the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad on Saturday 4th October 2008, two days shy of her 24th birthday.

This achievement landed Miss Morton, daughter of Mr. Vincent Morton, the distinction of making the Principal’s Honour Role.

The 2002 Miss Capisterre and 2002-2003 first runner-up at the Miss St.Kitts National Queen Pageant is no stranger to success and her recent accomplishment is even more compelling considering that during her study in Trinidad she suffered the loss of her mother, Miss Adina Connor, former Headmistress of the St. Paul’s Primary School. Miss Morton opted to forge on with her studies and has reaped just dividend.

The former St. Kitts Leeward Island debater was a member of the winning team at the Hamel Smith Mooting Competition in 2007, a moot coordinated by the one of the most prominent firms in Trinidad and Tobago.

A recipient of the Liamuigua Youth Legacy Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement and Contribution to Society, Miss Morton acquired her Bachelor of Laws from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus, Barbados in 2006.

Her eloquent speech and keen research and analytical skills earned her the distinguished honour to represent UWI at the Sherman & Sterling Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington D.C. in 2006.

During her undergraduate study she served as Secretary for both the St.Kitts & Nevis Student Association and the Law Society in 2004 and 2005 respectively. Miss Morton was also among a select number of students whose work was published in the Student Law Review of the Cave Hill campus. ~~Adz:Right~~

The multi-talented attorney at law is a lover of the performing arts, evident in her past involvement in the La Galaxie Dance Theatre, Centre Stage Theatre Movement and acquiring a Grade 7 Classical Piano certificate from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music.

Let us join as a Nation to publicly extend many congratulations to a proud daughter of the soil and pray that God may continue to grant her the strength, courage, and wisdom needed as she continues to make us all proud.
