~~Adz:Right~~ BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AT some time in life we are all at that point when we think about purchasing a home, but many of us are uncertain about how to go about it and what to look for.

St. Kitts, an island of 68 square miles, nine parishes with a population of 39,349, and sister island Nevis of 36 square miles with five parishes and a population of some 12, 000, have some of the best locations to consider when buying a home. Within most of these locations is the availability of incomparable panoramic and picturesque views, as well as the refreshing coolness of the Caribbean breeze. Therefore, without a doubt, the twin-island Federation is the next best place for your vacation home or that house of your dreams.

Purchasing a home in the Federation is said to be much easier now than before, as the closure of the St. Kitts Sugar Industry has caused more land to be available around the island.

According to an official at the Investment Promotion Agency, preference has been given to first time land owners, but nationals, residing at home and abroad, as well as non-nationals have been showing a great deal of interest in purchasing land to construct homes in the Federation.

Of course there are those who want to own a home but do not want to be engaged in the process of purchasing land upon which to build; and for that reason the realtors are there to assist in finding that special home.

Today, St. Kitts possess many realtors and numerous housing development agencies, and many more individuals are showing interest in owning their own property when compared with the past.

Some realtors that can be found in the Federation are Remax, Deon and Associates, Edwin Glasford, International Sales Management, Par Excellence, Hamoron Services, Romany Law Chambers, Howell’s Realty and Swiss Realty.

For the average man who may be interesting in owning a home for the first time, there is the National Housing Cooperation (NHC) - a government-base organisation which, according to its General Manager, Wayland Von, carries the objective of providing affordable homes for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis

He further stated than NHC mostly caters to non-bankable persons - people who would not be able to get a loan from the bank to purchase a home. Then there are the elites, people who are looking for something more for their money, and they can find that in the more upscale areas.

One of the most recent developers, Atlantic View, owned by TDC Group of Companies, is located five minutes away from the Frigate Bay area and seven minutes from the heart of the island’s capital, Basseterre.

Atlantic View, according to a marketing personnel of TDC, is known for its spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean which is stretched across 3.24 acres and has 21 units, each ranging from 1588 to 1867 square feet providing one with a relaxed environment.

Another new development agency to look out for is Kittitian Hill, which is not quite yet in operation but should be shortly, according to an employee.

Kittitian Hill is a contemporary Caribbean community founded on the principles of holistic, sustainable development which include villas, apartments and cottages situated on 400 acres overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
