Charlestown, Nevis - Early today, West Indies Power (Nevis) Ltd., Nevis 3 well, located at Hamilton Estates, gushed roaring steam confirming the existence of a continuous 2.5 mile geothermal reservoir on the island of Nevis and the possibility of several hundreds of MW’s of geothermal production capacity.

Kerry McDonald, CEO of WIP, stated: “The finding of steam and high temperatures at Nevis 3 at Hamilton Estates, which is located 2.5 miles south of Nevis 1 at Spring Hill, where steam and high temperatures were also found, confirms the existence of a continuous geothermal reservoir between the two wells.

With this discovery it is possible to say with confidence that the geothermal reservoir that exists between Spring Hill and Hamilton Estates contains several hundred MW’s of geothermal production capacity.”

West Indies Power Nevis Ltd. will now flow the well for several days to obtain the chemistry of the geothermal steam coming from the well.

The chemistry will give more accurate information for the design of the geothermal plants that will use this steam to produce electricity on Nevis for itself and the people of the Caribbean.

West Indies Power (Nevis) Ltd, an independent private renewable energy development company, is currently finalizing financing structure for the construction of the first 35MW geothermal power plant in Nevis.

When the steam flowed from the hole the well had been drilled to 2950 ft (899.2m) and had a temperature of 395F (201.6C). The wellhead pressure was 200 psi (13.8 bar.)
