Tortola, British Virgin Islands, February 12, 2013 – The 2013 BVI Festival of Arts opened on Tortola, February 10 at Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall with an exhibition showcasing the Territory’s rich history, traditions and livelihood depicted by a pool of talented local artistes.
Paintings, photography, sculpture, beadwork, illustrations, mixed media and fashion were amongst the visual arts on display.
Over 20 artistes participated in the event at Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall, which was presented by the Fifth District, the Department of Culture, and the BVI Tourist Board.
Activities for The Festival of Arts will continue into the month of March with “A Taste of BVI Culinary Art” food tasting fair held at the 1780 Lower Estate Sugar Works beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, 7 March; a performing arts production at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium in H. Lavity Stoutt Community College on Saturday, 9 March at 7:00 p.m.; “A Mountaintop Art Gallery and Open Museum” on Tuesday, 12 March at 10:00 a.m. with guided tours along the Cultural Wall of Murals leading to Ifield Hodge’s Vista The Look Out, with storytelling, entertainment and cultural treats from Iris’ Place.
