BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ‘FLASING LIGHTS’ by Kanye West pumped through the speakers at the Metropolitan Pavilion at New York Fashion Week as models hit the runway with ‘smokey eyes’ and ‘Push Play’ designs by Kittitian Shannen Azuredee Spencer.

Spencer, who goes by the name Shannen Azuredee, was beaming with pride as she received rave reviews following her showing.

“It was an amazing experience. I was very nervous. I kept wondering how my designs would be received, but when I took my first ever designer walk down the runway, I was blown away by the receptions of cheers. Afterwards at the press booth I got so many raves. I was overwhelmed with the entire experience,” she told SKNVibes.

She said there were a few hiccups, but nothing major, and all came together well in the end.

Spencer said that following her showing at the New York Fashion Week, she has received new clients, booking for photo-shoots and was hired to make dresses for a bridal party.

“What's next for Poetic Rhythm? Well, I'm currently working on my Resort 14 to hopefully showcase at Summer Sizzle in the BVI this coming July, then it’s back to New York for NYFW & Fashion's Night Out.

“I have mini-projects in between, but you'll just have to follow us on Facebook at http://facebook.com/PoeticRhythm or on Twitter (http://twitter.com/PoeticRhythmNY) for updates. I'll also be launching my website shortly,” she said.

Spencer is originally from Ponds Pasture, St. Kitts and comes from two generations of seamstresses.

She showcased her Autumn/Winter 2013 collection from her Poetic Rhythm brand called ‘Push Play’ on Sunday (Feb. 10) and describes her design style as “Sophisticated Chic”.

“My inspiration comes just as it says, ‘Push Play’, meaning the beginning, as in more is yet to come. The ‘Play’ symbol (an arrow) is also embodied in some of the pieces.”
