Teachers to receive Incentives from Local Companies

Nagico Insurance will offer teachers an additional 10% No Claims Discount on their motor policy and CCT Global Communications is offering teachers double top-up on every $20.00 from today until Friday, 24 October at the Tortola main office and on Virgin Gorda. Teachers wishing to benefit must present identification.

Minister for Education and Culture the Honourable Andrew Fahie said at a press briefing last week the Ministry and Department of Education along with the Teachers’ Union have been in negotiation for quite a while with some companies trying to secure incentives for teachers.  “This is just the first of many incentives to come for our teachers as they are the engine of our education system and the heartbeat of our country,” he said.

“It is important that we continue to work together; the old way of thinking that only the educators can deliver, maintain or sustain education in any country has long outlived that thought process,” Honourable Fahie added.

The Minister thanked both companies for their gesture and for making all teachers beneficiaries of these incentives.  “All our teachers are important whether they are in the public or private system,” he said.

Managing Director of Nagico Mr. Shan Mohamed told the media his company is pleased and happy to be associated with efforts to recognise the invaluable work of teachers in the BVI.  “We at Nagico understand and appreciate the significance of the contribution being made by teachers throughout the Territory and that is why the company has decided to offer this incentive to all teachers on their motor insurance policy, which is an addition to whatever No Claim Discount any teacher would have already accumulated at Nagico,” he said.   ~~Adz:Right~~

Mr. Mohamed said his company views this gesture as just a small way of saying thank you to teachers in appreciation to their continued contribution to education in the BVI.  “We are indeed honoured to join with the BVI Government in recognising and rewarding the work of our teachers as they so richly deserve,” Mr. Mohamed added.

President of the Teachers’ Union Mr. Cecil Hodge thanked both companies for their contribution and the Ministry and Department of Education and community for their support.  “The relationship between the Minister and the union is certainly one that has improved tremendously.  We have more access to him and he meets with us the second Thursday of every month,” Mr. Hodge said.

Approximately, 500 teachers will benefit from these incentives by both companies launched in commemoration of Teachers’ Week which was observed under the theme “Teachers Matter” from October 5 to 11.
