    Chief Minister faces no-confidence motion

Chief Minister of Montserrat Dr. Lowell Lewis

BRADES, Montserrat – Chief Minister of Montserrat Dr. Lowell Lewis is facing a no confidence motion filed by the Leader of the Opposition, David Brandt and is expected to respond during a special sitting of the Legislative Council slated for November 7.

According to Caribbean Net News, Brandt had made statements requesting Dr. Lewis give up his position although he felt the country was in no position for re-elections. Brandt described the current administration’s rule as one of failure characterized by bad management.

The Opposition leader claimed that Lewis’s leadership had “created an untenable situation characterized by bad management and erratic behaviour".

"The people of Montserrat are suffering more hardship now than ever before in recent history, and I am convinced that if we continue under the leadership of the Honourable Dr Lowell Lewis things could only get worse.

He insists on being a one man show. He listens to no one except those who agree with him."

Brant added that Lewis was unable to “inspire the cooperation needed to find and implement solutions to the country's challenges”.   ~~Adz:Right~~

Brandt urged other members of government to support his motion, and made it clear that he had no intention to replace Lewis. He however maintained that he was desirous of being the “watch dog for the poor, the down pressed and those who cannot speak for themselves”.

Dr Lewis, currently serves as the lone member of the Montserrat Democratic Party (MDP) which forms the coalition government also comprising of the New People's Liberation Movement (NPLM) and one independent legislator.
