    Tourism Awareness Month Marketplace

     

    ~~Adz:Right~~ Basseterre, St. Kitts - The St. Kitts Tourism Authority will continue its mission to bring the importance of the tourism industry to the public with the advent of the Tourism Marketplace. The event takes place on 24th October from 10am until 9pm. Activities slated for the occasion will include a tradeshow, a folklore avenue, a food fair and fashion show.

     

    Acting Marketing Manager of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Melnecia Daniel said that the Marketplace “Will underscore the opportunities available in tourism. The main aim of the event is to create awareness among the local people, especially our youths of the importance of the tourism industry to our economic sustenance.”

     

    The event’s highlight will be the Schools Pan Competition. Five schools will be competing for the title of champion. Four bands from Cayon High, Sandy Point, the Pantastics of CFBC and SKNSO of Basseterre High. They will perform 2 songs, the first being a warm up piece and the second is a rendition of “Steel Band Music” by David Rudder. 

    They will be tested on rhythm, performance, arrangement and so on.” The competition is set to begin at 7pm in the square. Organizer of the competition, Nigel Williams of the Department of Culture stated that, “We expect a huge crowd from both the schools and the general public. We expect the competition will inspire the young musicians and show them that there are opportunities in the cultural aspect of tourism.” This is the second year that the Tourism Authority has held the Marketplace.

     

    The mission of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority is the promotion of St. Kitts in all its major regional and international markets.
