Jermaine James, St. Kitts Tourism Junior Minister

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Jermaine James, St. Kitts’ Tourism Youth Ambassador, departed for Trinidad today (Oct. 25) to attend the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Business Meetings, Youth Programmes and Annual Meeting and Elections.

The event will run for three days and will feature a Junior Minister Debate in which James will represent St. Kitts among some eighteen other competitors from across the region to discuss Interregional Travel and Health Tourism.

James said, “It can be an overwhelming task knowing that I will be representing the island at a Caribbean conference, and I think that the presentation, especially the impromptu segment, will require critical thinking and analytical skills.

I am confident that I would do well. It was truly overwhelming at first but when I started getting into it, I enjoyed doing the research, the writing and preparation, and it turned out to be quite exciting in the end.”

James informed SKNVibes that there is a need for locals to understand the significance of tourism to the economy and stressed that nationals should ensure they invest in sustainable tourism development.   ~~Adz:Right~~

He added that it is equally necessary for locals to become educated on the viable jobs available in the tourism industry to improve the island’s tourism product.

“Tourism is no way equated to subservience; it is an industry. You work and you get paid according to how qualified you are and how much and what type of work you do. We must not look at it as slavery otherwise it will greatly affect the way we treat the people who come to our shores.”
