Antiguan MP elected as CTO Chair

    Minister of Tourism Harold Lovell

ST. JOHNS, Antigua- Minister of Tourism Harold Lovell was recently elected to serve as the new Chair of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) as a result of the organization’s Annual General Meeting and elections held yesterday (Oct. 27) in Trinidad.

Lovell was chosen by a unanimous vote and will succeed St. Lucia’s Senator Allen Chastanet as Chair of the CTO Council of Ministers and Commissioners of Tourism.

According to Caribbean Net News, “in keeping with changes to the CTO constitution—adopted at the Ministers’ meeting in Washington in June—Antigua’s Director General of Tourism or another representative named by the Minister, will head the CTO Board of Directors.”

In addition to Lovell’s appointment, the United States Virgin Islands, Curacao, Martinique, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and the British Virgin Islands were selected to serve as vice chairs to the Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers.

A representative from the Spanish Caribbean will later be decided upon to join the other Caribbean countries in forming the new Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, which will also consist of members of the respective private sectors. ~~Adz:Right~~
