Another illegal firearm taken off streets

~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE instances of success seen by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSKNPF) continue to increase with the most recent being that of the removal of an illegal firearm from the streets of the Federation.

Information gained from a police press release, stated that over the past weekend the RSKNPF conducted a number of operations in which one led to the seizure of the firearm.

“A search warrant was executed on Friday 24th October 2008 on the premises of Cecil and Akeem Charles of Lower Monkey Hill for illegal drugs, arms, ammunitions, jewelry and electronic items and a number of jewelry and a shot gun was found on the premises…”

The firearm, according to the release, was taken into police custody and Charles was arrested and slapped with a charge of “possession of a firearm”.

This find brings to total number of illegal firearms seized by the police for the year to 31, which is 10 more than the number of illegal firearms seized in 2007 and 23 more than those seized in 2006. The number of ammunition seized for the year is 1 600.

Meanwhile, during another operation that took place in the Basseterre area on Friday, October 24, 2008, one individual was arrested and charged with drug possession.

“Police conducted routine stop and search operations in the Basseterre area on Friday 24th October 2008 and Kyle Bridgewater of Nevis Street was arrested and charged for possession of cannabis after he was searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunitions and a quantity of marijuana was found in his possession. The drugs were taken into custody.”
