BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – COMMISSIONER of the Royal St.  Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) Austin Williams thanked the institution’s business partners for their past contributions and projected that with the increase in development there would be a need for increased security.

Commissioner Williams was at the time addressing 22 Constables and 14 Fire Officers who were inducted into the ranks of the RSCNF and the St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services following the historic Joint Graduation Ceremony at the Police Training Complex on Tuesday, October 28.

Williams said the graduation of the officers represented a significant part of the resources currently required to maintain order in the midst of development. He added that although the human resources in the country’s security services are limited, the Ministry of National Security remains the most challenging as the demand for maintenance of law and order is exceptionally high.

“I wish to remind all that the country has developed in great measures in the last 20 to 30 years. We need well-equipped forces to be up to the task to fight criminal activities and the threats faced by the modern world. There is no development without security, and for development to continue we need all stakeholders onboard.

“I have a meeting with the Chief Operations Officer for Christophe Harbour Development Company and I asked him to ensure that a police station is built with the ongoing development on the Southeast Peninsular. On this note, I wish to thank the members of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and all contributors for all their support in the past. We want to remind you that we still crave your support and we are confident you will.”

Williams acknowledged the deepened commitment to work displayed by the Chamber and the business community and other stakeholders, and urged them to “work with the security forces all to achieve the common goal of a safer country”.

An official from the Christophe Harbour Development Agency confirmed that because of the nature of the project, necessary security measures and “critical services” including police and fire and rescue officers would be put in place.

He further mentioned that although there is no concrete plan, the ideas under review include either a police outpost or a full-fledged police station for the master-plan community.
