S.K.N.Y.P.A wishes to highlight and extend congratulations to 3 members

~~Adz:Right~~ Basseterre, St. Kitts - The St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association (S.K.N.Y.P.A) wishes to highlight and extend congratulations to three its members for their recent achievements. These members are as followed: Shermaine Pemberton, Otis Jeffers and Azard Gumbs.

Ms. Shermaine Pemberton recently completed her bachelor degree at the University of the West Indies- St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad. Her graduation ceremony was scheduled to commence on 1st November, 2008. Ms. Pemberton pursued and achieved a bachelor’s degree in Marketing with a focus on Human Resource Management (HRM), and did so with honours. While at the University of the West Indies, Shermaine Pemberton was a member of the Leeward Island Student Association.

As a single mother, Shermaine travelled to Trinidad with her son to complete her studies. Thus she is delighted to have finished her course so successfully. She thanks God, first and foremost, for His goodness towards her. She also would like to thank her family and friends for their support. Shermaine also encourages others to pursue at a least a first degree with a goal towards moving on.

Mr. Otis Jeffers, obtained agricultural awards from the annual “Farmers & Fisheries Award Ceremony 2008”. Otis was judged and awarded the “Youngest Competing Farmer and The Best Farmer In Category 1.” Each farmer was judged under the category that best suits his/her farm size. Farmers with a farm size of 1 acre were judged under category 1. In 2007, at the same Award Ceremony, Otis’ farm was judged 2nd under Category 1. Nonetheless, as result of Otis’ continued hard work, dedication, and high productivity, he captured the 1st place prize in that same category this year.

Mr. Jeffers was elated that his hard work paid off. He expressed shock as he also mentioned that he never expected that he would have received such an award. He was basically doing his job. The prizes he received, however, have added fuel to his desire to do even better in the future.

Based on the candidates’ performance on the 2007 and 2008 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE), Mr. Azard Gumbs, of Old Road, received the best CAPE results at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College. He was also determined by the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC), as the runner-up State Scholar for 2008, as he attained the 2nd highest number of grade 1 passes in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, with a T- score of 464. Azard Gumbs received grade 1 passes in the following five of the seven qualifying units: Biology Unit 2, Chemistry Unit 1, Caribbean Studies and Environmental Science Units 1 and 2.

“I am very pleased that my hard work has paid off. I would also like to thank all those who encouraged and inspired me to settle for nothing less than my best. I thank God for His continued guidance, love and strength. I thank my family, teachers, friends and well-wishers for their support and congratulatory remarks,” said Mr. Gumbs, Runner-Up State Scholar 2008.

Again the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association says congratulations to its three members, Shermaine Pemberton, Otis Jeffers and Azard Gumbs; and wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.
