BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour political party continues its campaign train as a second constituency office was opened Saturday (Nov. 8) on Mount Idle, Sandy Point.

The opening ceremony saw several Labour candidates as well as numerous supporters converge upon the venue. A number of young persons made presentations of song, dance and poetry to entertain the large crowd.

Dr. Norgen Wilson, the touted Labour candidate for the Sandy Point and Fig Tree voting district, made a gift basket presentation to the oldest persons on the voter’s list not residing in an elderly home, Mary Tyson, and commended her on her invaluable contributions made in the early development of Sandy Point.

One of the major highlights of the evening was the renaming of the new candidate by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas who stated that “after tonight, Wilson shall be referred to as Dr. Obama Wilson”.

Wilson addressed the enthusiastic gathering indicating that he is committed to ensuring that the town is empowered to “get out of the time zone we seem to be stuck in”. He added that the office will provide a head-start in interacting with the residents of the area.

“This is a great opportunity. People can now locate me in a specific area. This office will be open to everybody in this community

and I will be available to the people of Sandy Point. It is not about me; I am not the one to decide what Sandy Point wants. The people have to come here, state their concerns, raise their issues and offer suggestions, and that is what this office will allow.

“Let me make it clear, I am not into the politics of divide because in order to build a community, we need to stand together. I love people and share their concerns; it doesn’t really matter to me who the individual is. When I come to Sandy Point, I don’t see Labour, I don’t see PAM, I see Sandy Pointers and I am here to serve everyone. Sandy Point has almost lost its identity, and I am here to ensure that Sandy Point regains it.”

Dr. Wilson stated that his chief concern is to physically develop the area and then concentrate heavily on developing the constituency’s human resource. He informed that he has served the community in the capacity of medical practitioner and decided to extend his service beyond the walls of the health centre.

Gertrude Webster, Wilson’s grandmother, joined by the Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and the unofficial Labour candidate, cut the red ribbon and signalled the official opening of the Labour Constituency 5 Office.
