    Sir Richard Cheltenham to lead prosecution team in Shermel Phillip murder trial

    ~~Adz:Right~~CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – BARBADIAN Sir Richard Cheltenham QC will be leading the prosecution team in the Shermel Phillip murder trial, which got on its way late this morning (Nov. 10) at the High Court in Charlestown, Nevis.

     

    Sir Richard will be out to prove that Warrington Phillip, on Friday, February 16, 2007 murdered his wife, Shermel Phillip, in the vicinity of her Brown Hill home in Nevis. He is being represented by Dr. Henry Browne.

     

    When the trial began this morning, a jurors’ selection session was held after which Sir Richard addressed members of the jury on the particulars of the case in which 26 witnesses are listed to give evidence.

     

    On Tuesday, February 20, 2007, police arrested and charged the former Leeward Islands spin bowler of Jessups Village with the murder of his wife, who was found dead in her car in the yard of her residence.
     
    Barbadian Forensic Pathologist Dr. Stephen Jones performed an autopsy on the body of the 27-year-old and ascertained that death was due to stab wounds to the neck with haemorrhage and shock.
