Fashion Corner presents: Political party supporters on Labour Day

By: Precious Mills, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN observance of the annual holiday, Labour Day, also referred to as May Day, which celebrates the achievement of workers, many party supporters on St. Kitts were dressed in variously-styled outfits on Monday (May 6) to show solidarity for the usual politically-organised events.

The ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party held its annual March through the streets of Basseterre while the main opposition party, People’s Action Movement (PAM), had its May Day Fair at the party’s Headquarters in Fortlands.

On a global scale, Labour Day is celebrated on May 1 but, as with other countries where it is celebrated on different dates, St. Kitts-Nevis observes it on the first Monday in May.

On that day, SKNVibes attended the two events with the aim of seeing how persons were dressed for the annual occasions with party-affiliated colours – PAM’s supporters in yellow and those of Labour in red.

Photographs taken to complement this article depicted how some supporters of the two political parties were dressed for the respective occasions.

For the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, as it is in other countries, the holiday has special significance to the labour movement.

Additionally, in other countries, Labour Day or May Day is one and the same with or connected to International Workers' Day, which is also observed on May 1.
