Roadtown, Tortola - Premier and Minister for Tourism Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE on Friday reiterated Government’s commitment to improving the Territory’s infrastructure as he welcomed another ship making an inaugural call to the Territory.

Speaking at a ceremony on board the MV Caribbean Princess, Honourable O’Neal welcomed the captain and the crew to the BVI and expressed the hope that the visit would mark the start of a long-lasting relationship.

He said Government plans to widen the roads and erect appropriate signage. “We are trying hard to improve our roads, widen them where it is necessary, put up road guards, put up proper signage so that it will help the people who are driving to find their way easily,” the Premier said.

He added, “we are doing our best in that respect to make the visitors happy that the roads are safe and secure and they can enjoy their driving around, if they drive or those who are being taken around in the safaris and taxicabs.”

The Premier also gave assurances that the sister islands are being included in efforts to improve the Territory’s tourism product. “We are hoping captain that soon it will be possible to take some of the passengers by ferry to Anegada where they would find much more beach space – many miles of beaches to enjoy themselves on.”

Noting that the island has a lot to offer, the Premier and Minister for Tourism used the opportunity to encourage tour agents and operators to arrange for trips to Anegada by visitors to the BVI. “They can spend at least three or four hours there and enjoy nature’s real paradise,” the Premier said.

Friday’s ceremony included the exchange of plaques between the Premier and the ship’s captain Mr. Attilio Guerrini. In his brief remarks, the captain expressed his delight to visit the Territory and assured the Premier that the passengers and crew are also happy to be here.  ~~Adz:Right~~
