London-based media group features Kittitian writer

    Mutryce A. Williams

LONDON-BASED media group Colourful features the work of 29-year-old Kittitian writer/social commentator Ms. Mutryce A. Williams. ‘Colourful, the first ever British black-led radio operation that focuses on speech instead of music features the article ‘Remembering What the West Indian Family Used to Be Like,’ on its website http://www.iamcolourful.com/articles/feature/details/159/Caribbean/.

The speech-based digital station aimed at Europe's African and Caribbean communities discovered Mutryce’s work on the Caribbean Net News, a regional web-based media group which also features the writer’s work, and decided to publish it. Mutryce, who cites Kittitian luminary and mentor Ambassador Simon Jones Hendrickson and Trinidadian writer V.S. Naipaul amongst her many influences, says that it is indeed an honour to have her work published by an international media house.

The Kittitian native who hails from the village of St. Paul’s began writing for the St. Kitts Labourspokesman in October 2002 and has since then been published in several other local and regional publications such as the Leewards Times and the Caribbean Net News.

Mutryce who describes writing as a passion rather than a calling said that she was quite awestruck to learn from a friend that her article had been published by the London-based media group. “Never in my wildest dreams, did I imagine that my work would be featured internationally. I am a dreamer and I do set lofty goals for myself, however, this is much more than I could have ever asked for,” she said.

Although granted acceptance to pursue a PhD in Political Science at the University of Texas Dallas in 2005, Mutryce deferred studies to represent the Federation on the UNESCO Executive Board in Paris, where she served on the Group of Experts on Financial and Administrative Matters; making UN history as one of the youngest persons to ever serve on a UN International Board. She has since then served as a member of the SSMC Transition Management Team, St. Kitts-Nevis Electoral Reform Consultative Committee and as National Coordinator for the UNESCO Youth PATH Project.  ~~Adz:Right~~

The Founder/Chairperson of the Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awards Association, who currently works at the Stanford Financial Group of Companies Global Office in St. Croix USVI, when asked whether she considered herself a success said that she measures success as helping others. “I don’t define success as a career neither do I define success by academic achievements or accomplishments. I am satisfied just knowing that I have used my life for the service of others, whether it’s by my writing or a kind act. Helping others is success to me. It is what I strive for in my everyday life. I’d like to think that I am making some strides in that department,” she said.

Mutryce thanks everyone who has encouraged and supported her in all of her endeavours. She extends thanks to the reading public, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor, Ingrid Charles-Gumbs, Mr. Dawud Byron, Mr. Clive Bacchus, Mr. Stanford Conway, Dr. Randy Glean, Mr. Auckland O. Hector, Mr. Keith Phillip, Mr. Elvis Newton, Mr. Juni Liburd, Mr. Antonio Maynard, Mr. Vincent Inniss, Mr. Valentine and Violet Browne, Ms. Teslyn Simmonds, Ms. Yolanda Wilson, Mr. Kenny Morgan, Ms. Pearlita ‘Baby’ Francis and her family.
