Government finalising remedial work on air quality improvement project

    ~~Adz:Left~~ Roadtown, Tortola -
Government is making progress with finalising the planning of the remedial work on the Central Administration Building (CAB) Air Quality Improvement Project.

Project Manager of the Air Quality Improvement Project, Mr. John Penn told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the roof replacement aspect of the project was submitted for tendering in late September.

“The pre-tender meeting was held on October 24 where contractors from the British Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, St. Martin and Puerto Rico were represented. Contractors are expected to submit bids for the project by November 25,” Mr. Penn said.

In addition to the work on the roof, the Ministry of Communications and Works is currently investigating the curtain wall system of the CAB due to the high level of water infiltration into the building over the years.  “We are resealing the entire building envelope to ensure that water will not continue to infiltrate the building,” Mr. Penn said.

Another critical aspect of the project is the general clean up and maintenance of the CAB. “The mechanical engineer has completed the air conditioning and sprinkler system mechanical drawings.   Once those drawings are approved by the Ministry we will commence the preparation of the tender document for the general clean-up,”        Mr. Penn concluded.

In addition to the replacement of the roof, work will include replacement of the ceiling tiles and grid, installation of energy efficient lighting fixtures, replacement of all air conditioning ducts, improved controls for the air conditioning system, and the replacement of the lightning protection system, and wall-to-wall carpet in the building.

The Ministry of Communications and Works remains dedicated and committed to ensuring that the air quality at the Central Administration Building meets applicable international industry standards for buildings of this type.
