CHARLESTOWN,Nevis,June 3rd, 2013 -- Students from the Montessori Academy, Nevis, and their teachers cleaned up a section of Gallows Bay on Friday last week as part of their annual conservation week activities.
According to the school’s owner and Principal Denise Morgan, the objective of the clean-up activity was to show the children the importance of keeping the environment around them tidy.
“Last year, we showed them reservoirs and the importance of saving water. We also took them to see the windfarm. This year, we wanted them to have a beach experience,” Morgan said.
The conservation activities, Morgan, explained enables the students to learn what is in the curriculum practically, “This is part of their science curriculum and social studies where we help them understand what is happening in the community. They also learn how important it is to keep their habitat clean.”
