HAVANA, Cuba, June 1 (acn)   --  U.S. experts, while addressing participants in the 31st Congress of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA), under way in Washington, coincided with the need of a change of policy on the part of their country towards Cuba.

A cable published on Saturday by Granma newspaper highlights that Wayne Smith, former head of the U.S. Interests Section to Havana, recalled that all nations of the region maintain relations with the island except the United States, which evidences the isolation of Washington’s policy.

Likewise, he said, every year the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly votes against the U.S. blockade of Cuba, and added that the countries of the region expressed at the Summit of the Americas in 2012 their condemnation to the carrying out of meetings without the participation of the Caribbean island.

While speaking about the need for a drastic revision of the U.S. policy towards Cuba, he underlined that majority of Cuban emigrants want the normalization of relations between the two countries.

The 31t Congress of the LASA will close on Saturday. The organization brings together over 7,000 experts on Latin American issues from around the world, which meet every year to analyze the region’s past and present and visualize its future, characterized by a climate of changes.
