BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE flag of St. Kitts and Nevis keeps fluttering in the English winds as another scholar has made herself and the twin-island Federation proud with her recent academic achievement.

She is England-based Tressa Richards-Charles of New Road Housing, St. Kitts who graduated with a LLB (Hons) Law from the Thames University, London.

The ceremony was held at The Great Hall at the Wembley Auditorium in Wembley Stadium on Friday, November 14 and was attended by approximately 1000 students who had succeeded at the bachelors, masters and doctorial levels.

According to news reaching SKNVibes, Tressa successfully completed her LLB in July which included a dissertation entitled “A comparative Analysis on International Equal Pay Instruments implements to avoid gender biases and why the United Kingdom has succeeded more as opposed to St.Kitts- Nevis”.

This project awarded Tressa a 2-1 pass for its uniqueness and originality which highlighted the International Labour Organisations’ 2007 and CEACR’s 07/08 Reports on Equal Pay Conventions and Recommendations in St.Kitts and the UK, and the minimum wage paid to men in comparison to women in these two countries.

During her studies, Tressa became an active member of the TVU Law Society, the Mooting Team and she also participated in the TVU law clinic which voluntarily assists members of the community with giving hands on legal advice.

While aspiring to gain more experience, Tressa received some training in Social Security law from the Free Representation Unit in Holborn London. The Free Representation Unit has over 30 years experience of representing clients in all areas of Social Security and Employment Law and deals with all aspects of the law that either go before a tribunal or the Social Security and Child Support Commissioners.

On completion of this training she will be representing her own clients before the Tribunal and, in addition to this experience, she will be furthering her studies in her chosen Inns of Court in London as a Barrister.

Tressa has attributed her success to her mother Avonelle Roland who resides in Puerto Rico, her father Le-Roy Richards, and also her husband and son who are with her in England. She would like to express her appreciation to her family in New Road, as well as her friends for their never ending support.

Tressa would also like to give special thanks to Tapley Seaton Q.C for his assistance in the providence of material for her thesis.

Thames Valley University traces its roots back to 1860 when the Lady Byron School was founded at what is now known as the TVU’s Ealing campus. After complete restructuring of campuses and additions of other institutions through the 1940’s and 70’s, Thames Valley University adopted its name in 1992.

Currently, there are about 50,000 students who attend the university and, according to the Universities’ official figures published in the Times Higher Education magazine in July 2008, TVU was revealed as having the best graduate employment record against its benchmark in the country with almost 95 percent employed within six months of graduating. ~~Adz:Right~~
