BRADES, Montserrat (June 12, 2013) – The Department of Agriculture will host the first of two backyard gardening competitions in August 2013. The competition will be judged in two areas; open field production and sheltered production.
The criteria for the open field competition are as follows:
1. Persons must register in order to take part in the competition.
2. Registration shall take place between June 3 and 14 2013. Registrations after this date will not be accepted.
3. Farmer must be resident on the plot being farmed, or the plot must be situated in residential area.
4. Plot should not exceed 1/8 acre.
5. Plots should have two crops or more
6. Judging will commence from July 28th to August 9th 2013
For the Hoop House Competition the criteria are as follows:
1. Persons must register in order to take part in the competition.
2. Registration shall take place between June 3 and 14 2013. Registration after this date will not be accepted.
3. Production must take place under a hoop house
4. Houses should have two crops or more
5. Judging will commence from July 28th to August 9th 2013
Interested back yard producers can register with the Department of Agriculture at telephone numbers 491 - 2076 and 491 - 3529. Attractive prizes will be awarded.
