BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (FEBRUARY 26TH 2004) – Representatives of the St. Kitts Taxi Association and the Liamuiga Taxi Association have agreed to reopen discussions with the management of the St. Kitts Scenic Railway following a near-two and a half-hour meeting with St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas.

Dr. Douglas and executive officers of both taxi associations met at the Office of the Prime Minister on Wednesday night.

Prime Minister heard the concerns of taxi drivers on the use of buses operated by the St. Kitts Scenic Railway to take cruise ship passengers from Port Zante to the Needsmust Railway Station and to the La Vallee turn-around.

Dr. Douglas brought the taxi associations representatives up to date on the issues and indicated that he will discuss the matter with the officials of the St. Kitts Scenic Railway so that the parties can meet to discuss how all can benefit from the operation.

Prime Minister Douglas has also agreed to meet with a representative body of taxi drivers who are not members of the St. Kitts Taxi Association and the Liamuiga Taxi Association.

That meeting has been tentatively set for next week Tuesday afternoon.
