Visiting media group receives sports tourism tips from Taiwan

By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 20, 2013 (SKNIS):  St. Kitts and Nevis were among countries who participated in a week long international media group tour in Taiwan.

During the June 9-15 visit, participants were engaged in a number of activities pertaining to Sports Tourism on the island. One of these tours resulted in a visit to the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Sports Administration (SA).

Mr. Wang, Deputy Director General of MOE and SA introduced the group to the Ministry and gave some insight on the Sports Administration.

"On January 1, 2013, the Ministry of Sports became Sports Administration under the Ministry of Education,” he said. “We operate under a brand new Government Agency but maintain the same staff.”

The Director Deputy General said under the new initiative, they incorporate not only sports, but also sports education in schools. He said by doing this, he hoped that students would live a healthier lifestyle.

“We promote this idea mainly in primary and high schools, for children 12-15 years, to exercise and be healthy,” he stressed. “The main goal is to have people develop the habit of daily sports.”

When asked about the feedback given since the incorporation of Sports Education, Mr. Wang stated that they have seen positive results.

“After becoming Sports Administration, it became easier to train athletes for upcoming events as it is done systematically,” said Mr. Wang. “Students are now better disciplined and on their way to a healthier future.”
