BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Governments of St. Kitts-Nevis and the Republic of China on Taiwan have partnered in their most recent venture to launch an International e-Government Seminar tomorrow (Nov. 27) at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

Co-sponsored by the Ministry of Technology and the Taiwan International and Cooperation Fund (ICDF), the seminar is the first of its kind in the region and is expected to attract ministers, directors, and specialists in e-government affairs from throughout the Caribbean

Community (CARICOM) as well as the public and private sector of the Federation. The day-long event, which begins at 9:00 a.m., is expected to feature main addresses by Minister with responsibility for Information Technology, Hon. Sam Condor and His Excellency

Ambassador Chen along with Secretary General of the Taiwan ICDF. Resident Ambassador of Taiwan to St. Kitts-Nevis Rong Chuan Wu explained that the seminar is one of the highlights of IT Month and will focus on the development of e-government strategies and experiences from the fruitful cooperation between the two countries. He also noted that the discussions would help countries to identify challenges in developing successful e-government and work toward effectively counteracting them.

“The Federation of St. Kitts-Nevis is one of the few ally nations cooperating with us in terms of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) projects. Since the project has been implemented smoothly and we have already yielded fruitful results, we have decided to partner with your [St. Kitts-Nevis] government to sponsor this international seminar. ~~Adz:Right~~

Through this, other countries would be able to experience our cooperative progress and discuss problems in order to allow us to learn from each other’s experiences,” the Ambassador told SKNVibes.

Ambassador Wu further opined that St. Kitts-Nevis is one of the leading nations in the CARICOM region in terms of its development of e-government, and referenced the government’s server and website as two critical instruments leading to such success.

“We want to demonstrate to CARICOM states how we cooperate; we not only assist St. Kitts-Nevis with infrastructural development, but we also stress the importance of utilizing the internet as it is a key to encouraging the development of a country. It is important that we have this kind of international seminar as we learn and share to advance in a new era of technology.”
