    POLICE/COURT ROUND UP

     ~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force continues to make its presence felt through the conducting of routine stop and search operations, the most recent of which took place over the past weekend.

     

    A police press release issued yesterday (Nov. 26) informs that on Saturday, November 22 and Sunday, November 23, persons attached to the security forces conducted “island wide stop and search patrol operations” during which a number of individuals was searched and drugs found were confiscated.

     

    During Saturday’s operation, 68 individuals were stopped and searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition and, while no one was found in possession of any of these items, “a quantity of cannabis was found in close proximity while conducting a search but no arrest was made.”

     

    The release informs that the drugs were taken into police custody.

     

    Similar operations were also conducted on Sunday during which almost 100 marijuana plants were discovered growing on an Old Manor vacant piece of land. The plants, which have been uprooted and taken into police custody, range in height from five inches to five feet.

     

    Investigations are ongoing as no one has been held accountable for the find.

     

    ARRESTS

     

    Three persons arrested over the past couple of days will have their day in court shortly as they are expected to enter pleas to the charges preferred against them. ~~Adz:Right~~

     

    Wounding with intent was the charge brought against Sandy Point resident Lorenston Ryan. The offence, according to police, was committed on November 18, 2008.

     

    Buckley’s Estate resident Imran Browne was arrested on Saturday, November 22, 2008 and charged with the offences of malicious damage and battery.

     

    For a November 21, 2008 offence of malicious damage, Michael Richards of Westbourne Street was arrested and charged.

     

    COURT CONVICTIONS

     

    Custodial sentencing was one of the punishments handed down by the Magistrate’s Court to persons recently convicted of committing criminal offences.

     

    Old Road inhabitant Recaldo Pemberton stood before the District “B” Magistrate’s Court, Sandy Point on charges of battery and wounding, and after conviction he was cautioned on the former and sentenced to two months imprisonment on the latter.

     

    The offences were committed on September 3, 2008.

     

    Government Road, Nevis resident Rudolph Tyson was convicted of a wounding with intent charge and fined $500 to be paid within three months or, in default, serve one month imprisonment.

     

    Gavin Patterson of Brown Hill has one month to come up with two sums, $150 and $250, which he was fined after conviction of driving a vehicle without a license plate affixed to the front of the vehicle and driving an unlicensed vehicle.

     

    Failure to pay the sum within the prescribed time, the man will be sentenced to serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Morrell Bryan of Craddock Road, Nevis was convicted of one count of driving without due care and attention and was severely cautioned.
