BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS part of its commitment to helping the less fortunate, the Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School is today visiting and presenting several persons in the neighbouring community with Christmas gift baskets today.
Principal Icilma Springer noted that this is the third year such an activity has occurred and it has been expanded to include visits at Easter.
Gift baskets contain toiletries and foodstuffs including toilet paper, toothpaste and tins of beef and tuna. Springer divulged that for this year, the school has targeted 25 needy persons throughout the community.
According to Springer, the initiative is a way “to share the gift of Christmas and love to those who are less fortunate”.
“The people who we are presenting baskets to are those persons in the community who have looked out for the school over the years and alerted us of things like break-ins, et cetera. ~~Adz:Right~~
“Due to the number of persons who have enjoyed and appreciated the activity over the past few years, it is one which we will continue to do for many years to come,” she revealed.
The school is also hosting a Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 3 at the Old Boys’ School on Victoria Road in which students will perform songs, dances and poetry pieces.
Springer encouraged persons to go out and be reminded of the true meaning of Christmas, which is “about sharing, loving, caring and spreading peace and love”.
