Court Update: Two guilty verdicts handed down this week

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TWO guilty verdicts were handed down by 12-member juries this week at the Basseterre High Court.

     

    The first was that of Carl Matthew who was convicted on Monday (Jul. 1) for shooting at with intent. 

    He was found guilty for shooting at Lyle Rawlins of Newton Ground with the intention of doing him grievous bodily harm. The incident occurred on December 8, 2011.

    This verdict was unanimous.

    The second case was that of Julian Charles. He was convicted yesterday (Jul. 5) of unlawful carnal knowledge.

    The illicit act was committed against a 14-year-old female on October 30, 2011.

    This verdict was also a unanimous one.

    The Assizes continue on Monday (Jul. 8) where a murder case is expected to begin.

    The May 2013 Criminal Assizes is also expected to close in a matter of weeks.
