BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE West Indies Cricket Board and Scotia Bank continue to implement initiatives to improve their Kiddy Cricket Programme.
This initiative will be evident this summer with the initiation of the Scotia Bank Kiddy Cricket Summer Camp.
The Scotia Bank Kiddy Cricket Summer Camp will be conducted throughout the West Indies and will be of one week duration starting from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.
Leeward Islands Territorial Development Officer Junie Mitcham explained that the Summer Camp is geared towards making the transition easier for the participants who are graduating from the WICB/Scotia Bank Kiddy Cricket Programme.
He noted that the transition is from the use of soft balls and plastic equipment to hard ball and the use of the protective cricket equipment in the Programme, which is the next step of the participants’ further development.
He declared that that initiative would be building on the foundation of the basic skills and fundamentals the participants would have learned during the WICB/Scotia Bank Kiddy Cricket Programme.
Mitcham further explained that during the one week Summer Camp, the participants would cover some of the most integral areas of their further development with the use of advance training and methodology.
These areas are: Batting, Bowling, Fielding, Wicket Keeping, History and Knowledge of the Game and Personal Lifestyle Development.
The one week WICB/Scotia Bank Kiddy Cricket Summer Camp is scheduled to be conducted in Nevis from July 15-19 at the Elquemedo Willett Park with 45 selected participants, and in St. Kitts from July 22-26 at the St. Paul’s Sports Complex with 60 selected participants.
