    Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awards Association honours eight Change Agents

     

    ~~Adz:Right~~ Basseterre, St. Kitts - THE Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awards Association inducted eight exceptional diverse national agents of change into its fold on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Government House.

     

    The organisation, which was founded five years ago to highlight the positive contributions of the nation’s youth, honoured Guidance Counsellor at the Washington Archibald High School (WAHS) Naeemah Hazelle-Menon; state scholar and local preacher Azard Gumbs was the Runner-up, CARICOM (Caribbean Community) Youth Ambassador Ian Richards, co-designer of the national wear and recipient of Sandy Point High School teacher award for extracurricular activities; Dwayne Weekes; calypsonian Tonicia “Queen Anastasia” Hodge-Martin; President of the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association (SKNYPA) Azilla Clarke; past president of the Rotaract Club, community activist, Dominic Mathew; and Pastor Lincoln Connor, Guidance Counsellor at WAHS and pastor of the Antioch Baptist Church.

     

    The ceremony was chaired by 2007 awardees Dr. Garfield Alexander and Crown Counsel Jihan Williams. Khrystus Wallace, a 2007 awardee, led the invocation and the national anthem was sung by Verema Douglas. The history of the awards was read by Donya Francis and the representation of the national symbols was delivered by Julie Charles.

     

    Presentation of the national symbols, which included a St. Kitts/Nevis flag pins, symbolic beginning and end rope scarves, St. Kitts/Nevis flags and exquisitely engraved plaques were presented by Ambassador Rosalyn Hazelle, Speaker of the House Curtis Martin, Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan Rong Chuan-Wu and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Youth Sam T. Condor, respectively.

     

    Speaker of the House and Youth Advocate Curtis Martin gave brief remarks whilst the feature address was delivered by Deputy Prime Minister Sam T. Condor. The vote of thanks was delivered by the Director of the Selections committee and 2004 awardee Janelle Lewis wherein LYLAA advisors Austin Weekes and Celia Christopher distributed the certificates and token bags to the awardees, respectively.

     

    The Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awards Association is an Honour Society that recognises young citizens of St. Kitts ages 16 through 35 who have lived exemplary lives of Scholarship, Leadership and Service.

     

    Each year the association seeks outstanding, well rounded young individuals who are agents of change and who have contributed to the development of their respective communities and to St. Kitts.

     

    Since its inception in 2004, LYLAA has honoured Sharalee Benjamin-Kelly, Shamara Morton, Janelle Lewis, Fadil Imo, Terrance Martin, Steve Whittaker, Geoffrey Hanley, Deidre Daniel, Claricia Langley, Jacqueline Bryan, Clive Saunders, Stachio Williams, Jenson Morton, Nigel Browne, Winnielle Guilbert, Diana Williams, Janelle Powell, Michelaena Mills, Pierre Liburd, Konris Maynard, Von Michael Martin, Gloria Esdaille, Francil Morris,  Jihan Williams, Joyelle Clarke, Candisie Franklin, Sudeakka Francis, Dr. Garfield Alexander, Khrystus Wallace, Mrs. Lavern Louard Greaves and Mr. Leslie ‘Sugar Bowl’ Morton.
