BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO females are among 12 calypsonians selected from a field of 19 competitors to compete in the Semi-finals of the annual Culturama Senior Calypso Competition.
The semi-finalists are Astro, Hollywood, Baker, Nutsie, Pupa Wheeler, Binghi, Gharlic, Lady Conscious, Lady Onna, By Surprise, Sabu and Meeko. The two women are first-timers to the competition.
The show was held on Saturday night (July 13) at Caribbean Cove where the competitors were required to sing one song in order to advance.
Notably, Lady Conscious is Irvinsia Warner who had placed First Runner-up in the 2012 National Carnival Queen Pageant that was held in St. Kitts.
Contacted for a comment, a spokesperson for the Nevis Culturama Secretariat congratulated the semi-finalists and encouraged the others to get ready for next year’s competition.
“We want to say congratulations to all who made it and we wish others best of luck. And we hope that they start preparing for the 40th Anniversary,” she stated.
According to the spokesperson, Saturday night’s “competition was very tough and it was also proved a tough task for the judges”.
The Semi-finals competition is scheduled to take place on Friday (July 26) at the Cultural Complex, starting at 8:00 p.m. sharp.
The reigning King, Keith ‘Dis N Dat’ Scarborough, is hoping to make a historic back-to-back win in the competition this year.
