BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FORMER Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Eight Cedric Roy Liburd will not be selected to represent constituents of that area for the next General Elections, as he has withdrawn his name as a nominee for candidacy of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.

Liburd made the announcement last evening (July 18) while addressing hundreds of Labour supporters at a political meeting in Saddlers.

In a brief interview with SKNVibes, Liburd indicated that he had withdrawn his name “long before” but did not publicly make the announcement until then.

The former Constituency Eight representative was asked why he made that decision, especially having previously indicated to this publication that he is willing to serve his people as their Parliamentary Representative.

He said he was unable to address those matters at that time and would be next available for interview on Monday (July 22).

Along with Liburd, Dr. Terrence Drew, a resident of St. Peter’s Parish, was named as one of the hopefuls to fill the spot. It was also suggested that at least one woman might be contending for the position.

However, according to Deputy Chairman of the SKNLP the Hon. Nigel Carty, an official announcement as to who the representative would be would not be announced until Wednesday (Jul. 24).
