Basseterre, St.Kitts (July 20th 2013):-Opposition People’s Action Movement Leader Hon. Shawn K. Richards is blasting the illegitimate Denzil Douglas government for what he describes as the continued contempt and disregard he shows towards the people of the country and in particular the people of Sandy Point/Fig Tree of which Richards is the parliamentary representative.
In a brief interview following the final of a 3 meeting North American PAM UNITY tour in Miami Richard’s lamented “The illegitimate minority government continues to blatantly disrespect and disregard the people of this country and especially the people of the constituency I represent. His utter contempt for the people of Sandy Point can be clearly seen through the 400 acres at Lavallee which were taken up and given away to somebody and some persons that nobody from Sandy Point or even the country seem to know. 400 acres sits there doing nothing while the people of Sandy Point cry-out daily for land to build homes, farm or expand businesses. If this was not enough the government then takes up 500 acres and poofs it away in this infamous land for debt swap . The disrespect and disregard continues with this latest scheme to cut Sandy Point in two with the proposed Boundary Changes. All mentioned was done with absolutely NO consultation with the proud people of Sandy Point. Even something as simple as the renaming of the SPHS was done literally behind the back of Sandy Pointers. NO CONSULTATION. This I find to be a massive slap in the face to all Sandy Pointers. Sandy Point is a town that has produced some of the Nations brightest and accomplished Nationals from University Professors, to world renowned Doctors, to Inventors to US Councilmen and Town Mayors to world class professional athletes. Our heritage and traditions in Sandy Point are rich . And it is this rich heritage of community passion that will not allow Sandy Pointers to sit idly by while this illegitimate government destroys our community,” said Richards
According to the proposed boundary changes the town of Sandy Point which has traditionally been a Constituency on its own, will be cut in two with half being merged with St.Pauls to Newton ground and the other half being merged with const # 4 Halfway tree to Trinity. If successful this would mean that the new Const #5 will run from St.Pauls through Newton Ground then half of Sandy Point. The government and the Boundaries Commission has had no consultation regarding the proposed changes.
The UNITY Partnership will be conducting a series of Townhall meetings regarding proposed changes over the next week. The first meeting takes place on Monday 22nd July in Basseterre while the 2nd in the Series takes place in Sandy Point on Wed 25th at the St.Annes Anglican Church Hall.
