    November proved an active month in the lives of Sknyparians

     

    ~~Adz:Right~~ Basseterre, St. Kitts - Tuesday, 18th November, 2008 marked a significant milestone in the lives of Melissa Bryant and Azard Gumbs as they proudly graduated from the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College. Both members of the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association (S.K.N.Y.P.A.) were awarded and congratulated for their outstanding performance over their two (2) year period of attendance at the college. Bryant graduated with honours (Magna Cum Laude) and received The Venezuela Institute Award for best results in Spanish. Gumbs also graduated with honours (Sum Cum Laude) and was received The National Caribbean Insurance Co. Ltd  Award for the Runner-up state scholar and The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Award for the best results in environmental science.

     

    Meanwhile, Shadine Julius, a former student of the Washington Archibald High School who is also a member of SKNYPA, was randomly selected to receive a Taiwanese scholarship of US $800 on December 8, 2008, to aid in any academic expenses incurred. Julius wishes firstly to thank God for her achievements thus far, the Taiwanese Embassy, as well as the Government of St. Kitts/Nevis for making these opportunities available to the people of St. Kitts/Nevis.

    The St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association graciously thanks The Honourable Dwyer Astaphan for accepting its invitation, and visiting the group on the 20th November, 2008 at 7:00 p.m at the McKnight Community Center. There he spoke with members of the SKNYPA along with others who were gathered there that night. At that meeting he shared his strategies and plans that he had as the former Minister of National Security.

     

    On Saturday 29th November, the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association held a Social Security Youth Symposium at the Players’ Dining Room at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium at 2pm. This activity was done as to garner the views of the youth on the topic of Social Security Reform. The Symposium touched areas such as administration, benefits, contributions, self-employment and investment as it relates to Social Security Reform.

     

    Later that day, both Azilla Clarke and Azard Gumbs were awarded the Youth Legacy Award by Liamigua Youth Legacy Association held at Government House. Both Clarke and Gumbs were highly grateful for the nomination and expressed their thanks and appreciation. Interestingly, approximately 1/3 of the past awardees comprise of past and present members of the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association.

     

    Although November proved an active month for the S.K.N.Y.P.A and its members the work continues as the group looks forward to the “Hunting for History Treasure Hunt” hosted in collaboration with Positively Incline, on December 14th 2008. The Association wishes to extend an invitation to the general public to participate in this enlightening adventure. More information will be given as to the details of this activity.

     

    SKNYPA wishes to congratulate the above mentioned members for their hard work and dedication and the group looks forward to a successful New Year for each member of the Association.

     

    The St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association is a non-profit, non-governmental youth organization launched in 2001 with a mandate to be an enabling agent for the open and honest discussion of national issues and a driving force for positive youth involvement in the political and legislative processes in St. Kitts and Nevis. The motto of the Association is “Equality and Justice in Nation Building.”
